{"id":4064,"date":"2023-12-07T13:25:10","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T13:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/planenergi.eu\/?post_type=portfolio&#038;p=4064"},"modified":"2023-12-14T14:03:37","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T14:03:37","slug":"support-dhc","status":"publish","type":"portfolio","link":"https:\/\/planenergi.eu\/da\/projects\/support-dhc\/","title":{"rendered":"Support DHC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Supporting a fast implementation of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat for DHC in Europe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>October 2023 \u2013 September 2027<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the next three decades, the transformation of the DHC sector to reach the overall goal of a carbon=neutral Europe by 2050 will be particularly challenging for owners and operators of DHC systems and all related stakeholders, such as authorities, involved in this process. The main challenges they will face are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the necessary\u00a0<strong>investments in the DHC infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0and related implementation efforts itself are enormous<\/li>\n<li>the upcoming definition for energy efficient DHC in Article 24 of the EED revision will define a clear roadmap until 2050 and thus requires\u00a0<strong>a holistic transformation planning of DHC<\/strong>\u00a0operators for decarbonizing their DHC systems in line with the EED, and<\/li>\n<li><strong>technologies such as low-grade renewable energies (RE) and waste heat (WH<\/strong>) are new to many operators and create the need of technical support to many subprocesses of DHC transformation and investment planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Thus, the overall objective of the SUPPORT DHC project is to address these challenges by supporting a fast implementation of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat for DHC in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The overall objective is achieved by facilitating and concretely supporting\u00a0<strong>DHC operators\u00a0<\/strong>in drawing-up of\u00a0<strong>transformation plans\u00a0<\/strong>and in particular concrete\u00a0<strong>investment plans\u00a0<\/strong>for a fast implementation of low-grade RE and WH for DHC in six European countries (AT, DE, IT, LT, PL, UA). The SUPPORT DHC project, in cooperation with involved DHC operators, demonstrates such \u00a0processes and lead to investments on the ground for a variety of EU-wide DHC system cases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expected outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SUPPORT DHC project will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>support a fast implementation of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat for 38 DHC operators in Europe in drawing-up their investment plans in 11 frontrunners cases and in 27 follower cases. The project aims to extend support to more than 100 DHC operators through replication.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility and replicability of the transition to the \u2018efficient district heating and cooling\u2019 criteria of high-temperature DHC systems of the frontrunner and follower cases. This shall lead to a higher number of DHC operators transforming their systems along the EED criteria.<\/li>\n<li>deliver relevant support for over\u00a0<strong>50 (576) M\u20ac investment<\/strong>, leading to\u00a0<strong>73 (848) GWh\/a primary energy\u00a0savings<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>37 (530) GWh\/a RES and 29 (251) GWh\/a WH use<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>16,500 (210,000) t CO2eq\/a reductio\u00a0n<\/strong>, which shall lead to a mitigation of climate change, decrease dependency on fossil fuels and positive societal impacts such as the creation of jobs and mitigation of energy poverty.<\/li>\n<li>reduce significantly\u00a0<strong>pollutants\u00a0<\/strong>(e.g. particulate matter) through the integration of low-grade RE and WH in DHC systems. This shall lead to improved air quality and thus health conditions, especially in cities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>reduce the dependency of DHC systems in Europe on natural gas\u00a0<\/strong>by increasing the use of lowgrade RE and WH in the DHC sector and by saving\u00a0<strong>67 (771) Gwh\/a\u00a0<\/strong>final energy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>increase the capacity\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0<strong>408 (1,088)\u00a0<\/strong>representatives of DHC owners\/operators and other market stakeholders to implement the investments necessary for the integration of low-grade RE or WH in high temperature DHC systems.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>improve the regulatory framework\u00a0<\/strong>for DHC allowing fulfilment of the EED criteria in 6 countries with in total\u00a0<strong>23 (155)\u00a0<\/strong>city administration or local and regional authorities adopting project outcomes.
